By strengthening our District, we are continually working to make Cedar Rapids a stronger community.

Organization Quick Facts

  • Non-profit organization, established February 2007
  • Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  • Consists of businesses, organizations and friends between 10th and 20th Streets along First Avenue, including Coe College and Mount Mercy University, Moundview Neighborhood, and Wellington Heights
  • Monthly meetings are held to discuss and resolve issues
  • Regularly meets with Cedar Rapids Police to discuss safety and concerns
  • Contributions are used for District-wide programming and promotion of District businesses and partners


District Accomplishments

  • Established as a 501c3 non-profit organization
  • Initiated a Student Discount Card for Coe and Mount Mercy students to restaurants and retail businesses
  • Began redevelopment and revitalization with signs, more efficient cleanup and beautification
  • Initiated the opening of the Community Connections Resource Center (CR Police Substation)
  • First Taste of Uptown District Event

2016 District Goals

  • Taste of the Uptown District
    • On April 12, 2016, the District will provide a trolley to take people to restaurants.
    • Restaurant maps with locations will be placed in key sporting venues in the Uptown District.
  • Signage on poles along First Avenue to build our brand name and other Cedar Rapids signage defining the Uptown District
  • New bike trails and bike racks. Our objective is to supplement Cedar Rapids bike trails and provide bike racks for the restaurants along the trail.
  • Revitalization of buildings in areas through grants and Cedar Rapids area effort.
    • $5,000 facade grant available through the City of Cedar Rapids
    • $50 membership discount to any member that refers a prospective new Uptown District member to us. (Contact Jerry Ziese (319)-573-0778
